This is not my idea; I heard it from someone, but I've done it for a few years and it works.

On Purim morning serve the children fresh rolls and chocolate milk. (Those who give this to the kids on a regular weekday will have to come up with something else. Tongue Out )

The idea is that before they start nashing they will have filled up on something relatively (I said relatively, okay health food mums!) healthy, and will eat less completely nutritionally worthless food. And at least you'll know at the end of the day that they didn't just eat cakes and candy.

my kids are happy w/ their reg. breakfast of cereal & milk, but we make sure they have a nice big breakfast that day. I can't believe that had they not had that, they would possibly be able to eat more nosh than they do after breakfast, but at least they ate something healthful in addition to all that junk!!!

Older children know what's coming. 8) If it's not something special, they'll pass and fill up later on cake. Rolling Eyes

We have the first meal early on so the kids know that if they have gefilta fish, they’re free for the day.
