I can picture the two lines on the pregnancy test
that really made my day.
I thought this year would be the best
with a baby on the way.
For four whole days I got to dream
about a baby in my arms.
But it wasn't the way it seems.
On the fifth day I woke up alarmed.
The next six days were such a blur;
a week of endless tests.
I imagined I felt the baby stir
and hoped for the best.
Today the doctor finally confirmed
that my uterus was bare,
and the baby for which I yearned
simply wasn't there.
And so the dreams that I dreamed
were just a waste of time.
It doesn't help to dream and scheme
for a baby that's not mine.
I know Hashem has a plan.
There's something he wants from me,
but I do not understand,
and I dream of my baby.
