I dont know uch about the 5 towns. But most of brooklyn is not really that kind of comunity. There are tousands of shtiblach, not really a centralized shul connecting people, you can find a place, but it would be hard going, espeacially in an older age goup tht has a set group. there will be volenteering options, there are many chesed organizations. There are many places to learn, but again, being in a learning center may not lead you to a social group.

Brooklyn is not like a small town, people have very set groups, and it is quite hard to break inand establish youself. It would take careful planning and research to find a place for yourself, and even then it may not work.

Have you given any thought to Fl? there are frum retirement communities there, And most people are in similair situation to you, it might be the right place for you.

Do you have married children? if yes, perhaps moving closer to them would be a good optìon?

I love living in Brooklyn, but I am not a person who needs to socialize beyond friends and family. in fact sometimes I feel very awkward among new people, I like that I am somewhat invisible. it works for me. but it does not sound like it will work for you. It seems that you need a real community, with social options.

My kids live in the 5 Townes and I live in Brooklyn . I can tell u that I am in my 60s and would rather live in the 5 Townes the schuls are vey welcoming lots of older folks live there to be close to their kids. I find people much friendlier then in Brooklyn. The Schuls have thing going on all the time much easier to make friends. That being said, I love my apt. In Brooklyn and I still work part time. I am not willing to retire full time yet, maybe sometime in the future!
