Terrible, shocking news.
I heard it was a drunk driver in CA that hit him as he was on the way
to the airport to come home to NY !

Boruch Dayan Emes. He and his son spent a shabbos with us a couple of years ago, and his wife (Bronya) came to speak here just 2 months ago. (if you ever go on askmoses she is one of the scholars)

It's so sad. He still has a bunch of kids to marry off. Poor family!

Maybe I'm wrong, but if it was a drunk driver, I see that as a tragedy but if it was someone older than 70 (even though so many people live into their 80's and 90's) I don't see it as "insane." Galus is insane, with suffering, illness, death - if that's what you mean, I agree!

sarahd, you lived in CH? They live right in the middle of the block, and have a bunch of blonde daughters. (I believe one of the married ones live in Switzerland, if that's where you live)
Such lovely people, what an awful thing. Especially when there are young children who need a father so much.

You are right, but 60 year olds who lose a parent cope with it a whole lot better than 16 year olds.

Oyoyoy. Yes, it's our former neighbor. We used to live on that block. What a nice man. His oldest daughter and my sister were best friends at the time. And yes, he has a daughter who lives here, I know her quite well. How awful.

BTW, nowadays when people commonly reach their 80's and also keep themselves much younger than previously, the 70's is not considered old.
