Works for larger pieces of meat such as top of the rib, french roast, brisket, etc.
On the bottom of a pan put a layer of onions.
Mix to make a spread:
Olive oil (I use about half a cup-3/4 cup)
garlic powder
onion powder
paprika
onion soup mix
crushed garlic
(Sorry I don't have exact measurements, I just eye everything. About 2 heaping spoonfuls each, I like a garlic taste so I put more crushed garlic...)
Put the meat down on the onions. Spread the olive oil spread over the meat. Pour/drizzle bbq sauce over the spread. Pour ginger ale (diet or regular) on the bottom of the pan to come up to the meat. Cover the pan.
If you have a large piece of meat cook on 350 for 2 hours and lower the flame to 250 for another half hour.
If it's a medium/small piece of meat cook on 350 for 1 1/2 hours and lower the flame to 250 for another half hour.
(The ginger ale, and lowering the temperature makes the meat very soft)
If you want a bit of a sweet and salty recipe I made this recipe last shabbos and it came out fantastic.
On the meat put:
Garlic powder
paprika
pepper
rosemary (optional)
In bowl mix Ketchup, brown sugar, apricot jelly, water. Pour over meat. Pour ginger ale on the bottom of the pan to come up to the meat.
Follow above cooking times.

RAmom asked what type of meat I was looking for so I responded. Did not mean to insult your recipe

About the ginger ale. I heard that it is very unhealthy to cook diet soda.

If you put some beef, whatever cut you like, in a pressure cooker with a jar of salsa and water to rinse the jar, and a little more, and cook it at fifteen minutes to the pound, or maybe less, you will have a nice brisket.
The juice there becomes free soup.
Or if you wrap your meat closely in three layers of tinfoil, and spice it nicely, and roast in the oven at 400 degrees F, again fifteen minutes to the pound, certainly not more, you will have a nice roast.
A good dusting of garlic powder and black pepper can do no wrong.
If you want to go further, some onion powder.
If you want to further, some green herbs such as a little oregano. A little cumin is exotic.
Pre-heat the oven.

Spare Ribs
-spare ribs
-1 large onion, sliced
-3 cloves garlic, sliced for rub
Glaze
-1/2 cup ketchup
-1/4 cup orange juice
-2 tsp onion soup mix (or 1 1/4 tsp onion powder + 1/2 tsp salt)
-1/4 cup brown sugar
-1/2 black pepper
In large aluminum pan, line pan with sliced onion. Top with ribs. Rub steak with garlic. Cover and bake in oven preheated to 425 for 1 hour.
Smear steak with glaze; cover and bake 20 minutes. Then uncover the pan, and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
