I did a search, but couldn't find anything. Does anyone have a good recipe for the Syrian dish "majedra" / rice and lentils? Also, what's the best type of rice/lentils to use.

I make it all the time. (although I'm not sure it's the REAL thing, it's my own version).
Saute Onions
Add the Rice and the Lentils, Saute for a couple of minutes.
Add spices.
Add water as you would for rice (2 for 1), and cook for 20 minutes.
You can soak the lentils first, so they'll be really soft.
I use the large green ones.

I was actually thinking of the baked version, if anyone knows one, but I can try this one. Sounds delicious.

I guess any type you're used to.
I usually use: Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Parsley.
You can also add about 1 tsp. of your favorite soup-mix. (I use the MSG Free kind, they come in all flavors here, and you can buy them at the supermarkets now. Used to be they only sold those at the health-food stores).

If you search it spelled majadra, you'll find lots of recipes. I did, and made it and it was yummy. Basically cook rice and cook lentils- equal amounts. Fry onions, mix all together, add cumin, salt, pepper, paprika, and parsley. Top with crisp deep fried onions. Came out REALLY yummy!!
