My 7 yr old got her ears pierced for her birthday, back in July. We followed the directions for keeping everything clean, left the earrings in for the mandatory 6 weeks, rotating the posts. There was never any sign of infecting during this time (swelling, pain, puss), though slight bleeding from time to time on one ear. After 6 weeks I changed her earrings and then a couple weeks later (actually it was more than a month) one ear swelled up slightly and there was blood and puss. I took out the earring for a few nights in a row, let it breathe, cleaned it very well and things seemed to clear up fine. Now a month (maybe more) later she just came to me saying her ear felt funny. I looked behind her ear by the post and see a bit of blood.
Why is this one ear not healing? I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what to do about it. The other ear is perfectly fine. I feel so bad for her that this has been so unpleasant. Never had a single issue when I got my ears pierced as a kid, nor did my other daughters.
What can I do?

Could be she developed a nickel allergy. Get her nickel-free earrings, the best quality you can afford.

She was pierced with stainless steel I think and then went to gold. Those have nickel in them?

I would also put on Neosporin or Bactroban or something like that. There may be a slight infection that needs some help to finally heal.

Some are purer than others.
