I saw a clip of Mayim Bialik on a double date. It was quite funny. But is the series enjoyable? Mostly clean?

Is it just me or does the Yiddish sound more like German? like some of the words they use/their accents. I'm not from a chassidishe commuity with only Yiddish, although I'm passably fluent, so maybe I just don't know enough. But I've watched shtisel and everything about it seems different.

I've seen every episode. It's hilarious!

And such a pleasure to hear non-Hungarian Yiddish!

So that's what it is! What dialect is it?

It's not a dialect. That's the point. Hungarian Yiddish is a dialect. The way they speak on the show is correct, literary Yiddish.

I have honestly never heard it before. That's so interesting to me. I've heard Polish and Russian accented Yiddish (I speak Russian) and ofc Hungarian but never yiddishist legit.. Thanks

I loved the video with Mayim! So funny, I can't wait to watch the rest. DH is a fluent Yiddish speaker, and I think he'll like it too.

I liked the one with Mayim, but most of them are heretical and repulsive to me.

Sad to hear that, I was really hoping they would be good. There's so much potential there.
