We are a family of four---- 2 disabled children. Currently one of us brings in about $24,000 a year and is probably about to be offered a $40,000 a year job that might also have a partial health insurance benefit. We live in the midwest.
NOW our two children are on SSI and all 4 of us are on medicaid. We get $600 of free food each Pesach, and we only need one car. We get a $7000 tax refund each summer, mostly EIC.
If we take this opportunity, we lose SSI (about $1200 a month) and medicaid and the $600 of free food, and the $7000 EIC, and we need a second car. Extra expenses would include health insurance (probably partial), Pesach food, and a monthly car payment.
We were desperate for this opportunity to get OFF of assistance but if we make this leap, will we be able to afford health insurance, a monthly car payment, Pesach......? There is no BETTER job to hold out for--- this $40,000 is the best deal possible. I can't figure out if we'd be at about the same level we are now, or we'd be a lot worse off.
We're NOT moving to a different city.
If you were me, what would you do?
What is take home pay each month (approx) for a $40,000 salary?
thanks
