I'm making mini trifles with whipped cream on top - should I make them up and leave them covered in the fridge or whip the cream and keep it in a big bowl and add it on the day? Any other tips for keeping it from melting etc.? I was thinking of whipping it by hand on yom tov... but I've never done that before and I don't have the strongest arms!

I've used this stabilized whipped cream once before with success, though it was for a Shabbos so only one day in advance. It says it works up to three days.

Get one of these guys

So much more fun! And you can flavor the cream. Since it's cold you can use it for Shabbos with oar eve cream. I believe it must be assembled beforehand.

Adding vanilla pudding mix while you are whipping makes it stiff and hold its shape.

You might want to ask a shaila before using this device, especialy on Shabbos. There is an opinion, fairly widely accepted, that one can't use the commercial cans that work like this device, because it's a form of melacha.

I don't have one.
Which melacha, what's the issue? I was going to ask my parents to bring me one.
*goes to ask DH...

That device looks awesome - would be interested to hear about the halacha... isn't it something to do with turning liquid to solid? I've heard of people who do and people who don't use the commercial cans...

Anyway I wouldn't be able to get that before yom tov, although it's now on my every growing gadget wish list!

Just how hard is it to whip cream by hand with a whisk? Has anyone done it?

You could use an old-fashioned egg beater to whip the cream quickly on YomTov.

And I own this device, use it on Pesach to make milk shakes:

Whip before chag....adding a little confectioners sugar, which sweetens and stiffens the cream as it contains corn starch. Id store it in a container and then pipe/mound on chag.

I thought the can was in issue of the shape of the cream. I cut off one or two tips of the design before shabbos\yom tov so that we don't have that issue.
