Looking for really fun ideas of things to do with an 8 and 10 year old within 1 hour travel time from 5 towns. Preferable not too expensive. Can go into the city as well.

The Aviator, its right over the Marine Pkwy Bridge
Theres a water playground with a bunch of different types of sprinklers and sand pits and swings and slides just off the boardwalk around Beach 30th street (not sure exact street, possibly Beach 32nd or 33rd) in Far Rockaway

The New York Hall of Science in Queens - they have free admission Sunday mornings between 10 and 11 AM.
Their website says the free admission is from September to June. This is incorrect, it's free at that day/time year-round.
You still have to pay for extras (the 3-D movies, mini golf, etc.)
