I'm looking for someplace to go with kids of all ages, within a four hour drive from brooklyn.
Looking to go overnight, so I need an area that has more than 1 interesting thing to do.
[Not amusement parks]
Thanks for your help!

Washington DC, where most of the attractions are free.

Baltimore's Inner Harbor has a really nice aquarium, science museum, children's museum, Fort McHenry, plus there's a zoo there, and there must be something you haven't done yet in the DC area (e.g. the other part of Air and Space Museum that's in Virginia).

Almost everything in Lancaster is closed this time of year, and also OP said she doesn't want amusement parks (which are anyway closed).

We filled three days with Lancaster activities without going to any amusement parks.

We liked the Newseum. The Air and Space Museum annex in Virginia has tons of real planes, missiles, and a space shuttle to see. There's no interactive, but your kids might be happy there at those ages.
