Recently I called my son to "supper."
My hubby was like "What did you say?" I guess he never heard me say it. Plus he grew up with his mother always calling it "dinner." Then we had a whole discussion about the hidden difference in the two words. It sounds silly and it is. I was just curious what does it sound like in your house?

My motehrh always called it supper - but I wanted to be like one of those refined familys so I would always say dinner. I just got used to saying dinner from that. I guess it was my rebellion .

I agree with indy, "dinner" does sound more formal/refined than supper. Well, I do concider myself refined, but none the less, it's 'supper' in my family!

Call it supper, I had friends that called it dinner and I thought it was so much better coz they probably knew more what they were talking about than my parents who are foreign...but I never really used the word dinner, so it's always supper. I knew someone who called it tea.

I call it "milk and cookies". As for the big meal we eat in the evening, we call it "dinner" most of the time, but "supper" sometimes, too.
