Call me crazy that I'm "winter clothes shopping" now while everyone else is summer shopping, but my baby is growing out of his shabbos clothes and it definitely won't be warm enough to wear summer clothes over pesach. My question is: I'm thinking of buying him cardigans for Shabbos but don't know what he is going to wear underneath it. (Regarding the fact that it is v neck) He is under 2 years old. Should he be wearing a button down collared shirt under a sweater cardigan with leggings? Boy do I miss mommy3b2c....

You could do a baby shirt, something without a regular collar. More like a french collar, or peter pan collar. Or you could do a shell matching to the leggings - that's what I did.

Pardon my unfashionable self: a shell on my toddler son? I pondered it, but don't remember seeing kids dressed this way.

If you have summer tops already, you can add coordinating spring-colored sweaters on top for warmth.
If you don't I'd go with crew necks.

It really depends on the type of sweater. If it’s very low cut v-neck then it probably doesn’t look so good. Shell station sells many many toddler sized shells, in every color under thre rainbow! I’ve seen s few toddlers with shells, but again, it has to be the right sweater.
