Amelia badelia has chapter books
A-Z mysteries, although some some are probably less “kosher”
The chocolate touch
Chocolate fever
Mr. poppers penguins was great, I read it with my daughter last year
A little princess
You can start a series of unfortunate events

Cam Jansen by David Adler.
Though a boy and a girl work together it is totally clean.
(Author is a frum jew. Books are written for general public)

Ballpark mysteries are totally kosher and boys LOVE. All baseball themed but you don't have to "know" baseball to enjoy the books

Strongly agree with Cam Jansen. It's on a lower comprehension level than Boxcar Children, I think. Shorter and simpler plotlines. So if your 2nd grader is more average, then go with Cam Jansen and graduate to Boxcar next year.
A to Z mysteries are not inherently objectionable but I find that they use words like "darn" which makes me think - just why? I don't like that. I'd say Calendar Club series is similar and without that glitch.
Flat Stanley is a series now. I find them annoyingly shallow but 2nd graders love them.
Skip Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. They were good decades ago when there was nothing else to read, but now - ew.
My kids like Magic School Bus chapter books.
