I have found that iKippah washes extremely well. I just throw them in with clothing and then let them dry flat on a rack. There is something called a Magen Tzitzit which can help you keep your tzitzit from getting ruined in the wash.

Yarmulke just throw in the wash. Tallis and tzitzis just soak in the tub with some woolite and then rinse..hang dry.

Dh has this great trick of sticking his tzitzit into small freezer plastic bags and wrapping them tightly with a bit of string. Then he puts the whole thing into the washing machine at a low setting. Works perfectly well and saves me a lot of work. Kippot (yarmulkas) also go in the washing machine. Big tallit (wool) - dry cleaning only.

I have found that dry cleaning taleisim makes them yellow...The Tallis wool is dyed white, cleaning it often will cause the white dye to wear off.

I soak the tallis and wool tzitzis overnight in a mixture of woolite, oxi powder and murphy oil soap. 1 cup of each.
Then in the morning I let the machine run on delicate.
When the fresh water is in I add a cup of Iron Out rust cleaner with a few cups of milk.
I do another rinse with vinegar to get that chemical smell out.
I let it soak for 15 minutes and it comes out beautifully clean and white.

What an interesting recipe!
3 questions: The overnight mixture includes no water?
And you add the Iron out, milk and vinegar directly in the machine or in the detergent slot?
Also do you iron it afterwards?

Interesting, I never thought of that. I did notice that they turn slightly yellowish over the course of many years but I thought that was kind of natural aging of the cloth.
