If your 1 year old was playing then fell asleep on his own, about the time they usually take a nap anyway (approx 1 HR nap) and right after he fell asleep you come close and smell a dirty diaper. Would you wake him up to change him or just change him when he gets up?

I feel like I'm supposed to wake him up, but it's so rare that he falls asleep in his own, he's usually a sleep fighter. Am I a bad mother for letting him nap in a dirty diaper?

Won't be the first time this happened in the history of the world, but maybe give him a bath after.

if he's uncomfortable - he will wake up.

I assume he doesn't have super sensitive skin on his bottom. It can handle it.

Think about this this way. Many moms don't check on napping babies. They would never know.

I would wake up. Babies can get horrible rashes from being in a dirty diaper for too long.

I change a dirty diaper no matter what. It can cause a rash and what not.

I would wake up to change. It would be seriously annoying but I'd do it anyway.

It depends how badly *I* need the break. But I really want that tushy to be clean and not irritated. Also when it dries it’s harder to clean off.

OP here: I did the easier option and let him sleep. I changed him as soon as he woke up and there was no irritation but the poo was stickier and a little harder to clean than usual, but it was fine.

For a short nap I would wait. If it was overnight I'd wake and change and then put back to sleep. Had that with my toddler this summer.

Me too. I start this from when they are newborns. So they don't wake up fully when changing them and fall right back asleep. I would not leave a baby in a dirty pamper once I'm aware they are dirty. I'd rather a baby wake up then deal with a nasty diaper rash that lasts for days.

I have one kid that I would let sleep. Another gets terrible diaper rash and I change immediately
