I just moved into a house with a kitchen that needs serious help. It is apprx 12x12. I do not anticipate being here more than 5-7 years so I do not want to put serious money into it. Can I do a Home Depot or IKEA kitchen from start to finish for around 5000. Appliances not included. And any tips?

I think both stores have design consultants who can help you. I'm guessing it's doable.

I did a smaller Ikea kitchen (just one 10-foot wall of cabinets) for under $2300. Cabinets were $1900, Ikea butcherblock countertop was $180. I love the cabinets, but the wood countertop is pretty high maintenance. I don't know how much labor would be.

In that price range I think you will get better quality with Ikea.
