Does anyone know of any support groups for someone who just unexpectedly gave birth to a child with Downs Syndrome? They are going through a very tough time emotionally.

Does it have to be a Jewish group? An aquaintance of mine always mentions how helpful this group was to her. https://www.dsdiagnosisnetwork.org

Ditto. I live in Maryland. One bit of advice --the parents may be given all sorts of materials to read--suggest they limit their reading to recent materials (last five years or so), and and too much. A lot can be overwhelming and needlessly worrying.

There is a facebook group called Jewish parents of children with DS.

If they are in NYC, HASC center has family support groups. http://www.hasccenter.com/family_support.php

Also usually as soon as you get a diagnosis you will get a care coordinator who will help you sign up for early intervention and other services, including a social worker/therapist if needed.

I recently gave birth to a baby with Downs and didn’t know about the diagnosis beforehand. She’s now 2 months old. It was very hard for me to process at the beginning but I’m doing a lot better now. I got so much support from
people here. This is the link in case you want to share it with the couple. People had many kind and inspiring things to say: https://www.imamother.com/foru.....6398.
I would be happy to speak with the couple if they ever want, not to give support because I’m still unexperienced but to say hello to fellow travelers on the journey.
