I'm on samsung's website and thinking about getting a new phone on sale. Should I get the unlocked phone or the one specific for my carrier (ie get the one that shows tmobile for tmobile customers). whats the difference? price is the same

Get unlocked if it's the same price, that means you can switch carriers easily

Unlocked also makes it easier to use your phone in a different country. You'd just need to buy/rent a sim card card vs a full phone
