Yeast cake with baking powder

can yeast cake be made with baking powder instead? One of my favorite packaged cakes - fruit strip, which to all appearances is a yeast type of cake, lists no yeast, but baking powder as an ingredient.

no then its not a yeast cake
you can't have yeast cake without the yeast

I don't have enough yeast in the house for both challah and cake, so if I can find a babka type of recipe that uses baking powder instead of yeast, I'm in business. CM, I don't have the package with the ingredients on the label handy, but I think they are flour, sugar, soybean oil, baking powder and the fruit filling, and chopped nuts.
