Shmaltz LOL

Shmaltz and Tallow are really the best. Truly natural and unprocessed.
But I’m on keto so I may think differently than others

We use avocado oil. (Del Rosa brand) it's healthy, great for baking and cooking and doesn't have a distinct taste.

I use that too, during the year as well.
But I'm a bit confused because all the avocado oil I've found is refined... so how is that healthy?

I use grapeseed oil for Pesach. It's a very nice neutral oil, and not so expensive. And it doesn't have that weird rancid stickiness that cottonseed always suffers from.

Grapeseed years ago hechsher was taken off because of shailah of yayin nesech

Eta Clarification. One oil that had Crc hechsher years ago & I know person who imported it. At end that supervision removed hechsher because of shailos of yayin nesech, oil being produced by non Jewish plant with non Jewish workers.

I found it very deceptive that on certain oils that were marked "vegetable oil", were really made of cottonseed oil. As far as I know, cottonseed is NOT a vegetable. and do not market it as such.

Neither is canola - also marketed as vegetable oil.

Really its "animal" or "vegetable". Whatever fat/oil is not animal based (lard, butter) is vegetable.

Older recipes call for generic 'vegetable oil' - so there is some explanation as to why they are labeled like that.

There's one certified by the star-k that's been on their Pesach list for the last few years.

I use olive oil. Never tried it in baking yet.

What oils are good for year round use? I use canola but recently heard it’s not so healthy.

Olive oil and coconut oil are often rated highly in general.

As with anything, use in moderation. Too much of any fat isn't good for you.

But at least it's not in the same category as cottonseed oil. Cotton is not a food crop, so it is given a much heavier pesticide treatment than would be allowed for food crops.

Personally, I use coconut oil for Pesach baking, light olive oil for everything else on Pesach, and either canola or olive oil during the rest of the year.

This was true till a few years ago - we could never buy any potato chips, mayo etc because everything was made with cottonseed oil and we hold it's kitniyos.

Now I noticed everything is made with palm oil. I still tried to limit it as much as possible, but it was nice to be able to buy a snack for the kids.

I only cook and bake with walnut oil on pesach, since it seems to be the healthiest option.

Gefen mayo, Bloom's potato chips... still made with cottonseed oil. Only noticed palm oil in crackers.
The Terra chips are the best since they are made with safflower oil.
