Anyone here old enough to remember mimeographs?
When we were kids, we'd fight over who got to make copies for the class, because the ink smelled sooooo good. Totally toxic, but in a pleasant sort of way.

That sounds off. Chlorine has a smell - smell it before it goes into the pool.
I hate the smell of cigarettes, but I love how it smells when someone lights a cigarette and walks out of the house - love the lingering smell. (Only happens on yt when they light from the stove! Otherwise would never let in the house.)

What I love about reading this thread is seeing how we often interpret the smell of different items according to our pleasant associations with that item- and vice versa. Especially childhood memories

[quote="preciousmommy"]I always kind of liked the smell of gasoline.
I am relieved to learn that I'm not the only one who likes the smell of gasoline (petrol for us Brits!)
I also like the smell of new leather shoes, freshly baked bread, and weird as it may seem I like the smell of Elldue tights when the packet is first opened!

I also really like the smell at the dry cleaners, but maybe thatโs not so weird. |

For those who enjoy the smell of gasoline - be sure to be checked for anemia at your next doctor visit. Could be related.

Exactly what I was going to post: The sense of smell is mostly closely related with memory. Smells we like or dislike often come from the memories associated with those smells.
