What is the most affordable neighborhood in queens and what types of houses are there and what price range. We are a yeshivish family. Dh is in klai kodesh. Are there any cheaper communities where the commute will be around a half hour or less and what is the housing situation there.

The areas with a yeshivish element on queens are kew gardens hills, kew gardens, and far rockaway/bayswater.
Kgh and kg are super expensive right now. Renting in kg is a little better but you'll be farther from amenities (need car for everything )
Bayswater is cheaper but physically more part of 5towns then rest of queens. About 30 min from kgh. So it depends where in queens you need to go. Also consider inwood, technically not queens but commutable and has yeshivish element.
Are u buying or renting?

Look into East Meadow. Small, up and coming community with affordable housing located approximately half an hour from Queens. Sounds like it might be a good fit for you hashkafically if you're okay with being a pioneer.

We would love to buy. What would a house cost in Kew Gardens and what is the general area like? more like brooklyn or more suburban. We have been looking to buy in Inwood originally but are getting very discouraged with the housing situation there....

I believe the houses in Kew Gardens are about 700k-800k. You definitely get bigger house than in kgh for your money. Smaller community with lots of sharei torah families. Very hilly, not like brooklyn. Stand alone houses. 1 little grocery store. Lots of shul options. Friendly and torahdik. Has a bais yaakov and yeshiva in the communtiy.

Sorry to tell you, but if you're discouraged by the housing situation in Inwood, just wait until you see what it is in the Jewish neighborhoods in Queens!

Pple are constantly suggesting inwood here, but I don't know if everyone knows how terrible the situation is with inwood housing right now.

What do you mean by that. Inwood houses are discouraging because they are ridiculously designed and need a ton of work. Many of them are very small and dont have basements...

Would someone be able to expand on what you mean by the housing situation being terrible in Inwood?
In Queens it's ridiculous. We are currently renting a small apartment but anything larger is significantly more expensive. Houses are at least 800k in Queens and upwards of that for not large properties.

Tons of people looking for houses in inwood. very few houses. The houses that are available are generally very small, have strange layouts that aren't really suitable for frum families. there are some that arent so small, but many need tons of work, think up to 100k worth of work. oh and for all this its not that cheap anymore. we have been looking for quite a while, and its just getting more and more difficult.
