My Israeli DIL warns me not to speak in public when we visit because the price of a cab ride will go up and people seeking tzedukah will get more insistent.
The tzedukah collectors who come to the US also think that we are all rich and stingy but I noticed that here in Monsey they focus on the wealthier areas and we almost never get them on our street which is full of multi-family houses.

This annoying stereotype is not just for americans americans.
I am of course rich, even thought I live in Israel.
Yes where I like there are MANY rich americans living in huge houses and going to Italy every winter and the USA every summer with they're 7 kids and have a basement pool too.
But most of are are normal people just making it through the months, maybe we have a little extra, maybe we don't and maybe we're in debt.
I freely put any israeli who thinks were all rolling in it in their place.

An iIsreal women chatting with my mom was mentioning how her married kids are struggling and living in tiny apartments with several children. She was nicely surprised when my mother told her that her married kids also live in tiny apartments with several kids.
She thought we all live in houses with multiple rooms.
Yeah sure. ..
