Posting for a friend.

In the cheder she sends to, it's "understood" for Purim you give a realllly nice shaloch manos (think big bottle of something, etc), and at the end of the year you give money.

My friend, who isn't blessed with material wealth, gave a nice, heartfelt, personal, creative but small-bottle-of-wine shaloch manos. She then perceived the rebbe was cold to them, but realizes that might be in her head...

But now it's the last week of school, and other mothers just tell her "Give as much as you can." But no one can tell her how MUCH that needs to be... but someone did helpfully tell her that not giving enough will mess up her child forever.

SO: any insight? advice? Thanks!

My DH is a rebbe. Not everyone gives a gift, but most send a note (often with a chocolate bar). The notes are kept, and valued at more than most of the gifts!
