My husband has very bad back pain that is in the process of being taken care of but is he allowed to take Advil on Yom Kippur? And/or there something else he can take that lasts 12 or 24 hours?

Best to ask your Rav, as different people will hold differently.
Aleve is supposed to last 12 hours.

If you are in enough pain that you need to lie down you can take medicine on shabbos / yom tov as per my rav.

I take. I don't want to pay it for days or be vomiting. Especially since no one else will pick up the slack

There are views that swallowing a bitter pill (ie, not coated with a sweet coating) without water is not considered eating and may be allowed.
Some people find it hard to swallow pills without water, and absorption is often less efficient on an empty stomach.
Ask your Rav, who is familiar with his condition (or at least can have the details explained to him). The Rav may also know of slow release medications that he could take instead.

I use Tylenol suppositories.
If wants Advil specifically should ask rav. Can maybe take without water. If can’t then with a very tiny amount.
(But ask today not tomorrow when most rabbanim habe a crazy day)

An organization from Toronto formed an extended release Advil specially for Yom Kippur. If you are in Monsey I heard that evergreen is selling it.
