Mazel tov to Moshe Schwartz and family upon birth...
Mazel tov engagement:
Avraham Klein to daughter of Kalman Gross
What is wrong with mentioning a name of a woman?
I really want to understand this?
I Know I should just mind my own business, but don't you think this is going too far?

Yeah, it's a terrible sin to mention a woman's name. A shanda that anyone would dare write the kallah's name on a wedding invitation.
She shouldn't be on the kesuba, either! Wait... let the man get married with a male shaliach for the woman, lest anyone see the kallah covered by a veil and think something...

Dunno where you live... never have this. I think its a chassidish thing to do. Like mazel tov to Boruch Goldstein and Kallah Schwartz.

No, it's just the traditional way to do it - to show how modest you are.

I'm chassidish and the kallah's names are written in the local papers.

I was looking at engagement announcements in one of the frum magazines. Accompanied next to one announcement was a picture of two men standing next to each other at a lchaim. I did a double take because at first glance I thought I was looking at a newly engaged gay frum couple. Then I realized it was the chasan and his soon to be father in law. They wouldn’t put the picture of the kallah in.

Its politics ... is that hard to understand ... its not rocketscience
After all the covering up for child molesters
And nefarious sleezy business deals to pay tution for those of us who have schools
And the unfathomable evil of the school owners perpetrated against the vulnerable masses of "frum" humanity
We still need to look in the mirror and see tzadikim....

Then the Torah must not be very modest.

Modesty is not about erasure. Conflating the two is bad in both directions.

Reminds me of a youtube clip I saw once of an amateur frum comedian (forgot his name, or I would post it) and he was talking about megilas esther andh how frum he is, so being that "esther is a name from the ladies, im just going to call it, Megilas."
Made me laugh

It’s not a sin to mention her name. But mention of her name can lead one to sin

So reading the Torah can lead one to sin?

Yes, it is going too far. Someone showed me an invitation a Gadol sent out years ago when their child was getting married. With his Rebbitzen's name on it. Scandalous!!
For some reason this really boils my blood.

No, the Torah simply does not see a reason to "outdo" people by "proving" how "modest" it is.
The Torah has no qualms about mentioning various "immodest" things in the appropriate context.
It's just people, more specifically modern-day frum people, who feel a need to outdo each other and the Torah in their quest for false modesty.

The local paper here which is very chassidish has the girls name and then her last name sometimes the fathers name and the moms maiden name. So everyone is mentioned.

It’s a slippery slope. One day we’re publishing the names of women the next there will be pictures of female faces. It’s important to keep the hearts and minds of our Beni torah pure... v’lo sassuru achrei levavchem
