I know the feeling!!
when my ds was around 6 months he started these random screeches...it was so embarrasing, I would be in the store and he would let out a screech...there was not much I could do
he finally stopped it around his first birthday - but until then it was tough
good luck, hope it won't last too long

My daughter does the same. I tell her I am counting to five and you can choose to stay here with me quietly or you can go screem in your room. I sometimes add I would like/(I wish) you to stay with me. If she doesnt stop tell her to go up, if she doesn't take her, but don't say anything negative, just something like - when your finished screeming/ready to be quiet you can come down. Be Consistent.
