I have heard of it. Most of the people I know don't make kiddush between 6-7. My father does, but since my husband's father doesn't, we wait too. (unless I'm so hungry that I can't wait that extra 1/2 hour)

I think that by many Chassidim, the men start coming home from shul about 2 hours after the zman. That would make it after 6:00.

The sefer further says that the Oruch Hashulchan says that one does not have to be careful for this bec. we are not under the rule of the mazalos

I think this is why I never heard of it.

When I have to eat before kiddush, I eat a few crackers in my bedroom--I keep a package there for that reason--so they don't see. If I pulled out grape juice and a becher it would be more obvious. Also, I don't really tell my kids when I'm pregnant, especially in the begining when it is really an issue. So far my kids are young enough not to notice until pretty far along.

Why do you feel the need to hide the fact from your kids that you're making your own kiddush, which has no halachic problems? If they ask, just say that you're hungry and there's no problem making kiddush. Eating crackers is a problem, especially before the night kiddush, especially since it is easily solved by making kiddush yourself.

BTW, about grape juice (even though the consensus was that it makes no difference for this issue) - it is preferable halachically to make kiddush on wine.

It was mentioned that diabetics use challa. They can use 100% dry red wine plus water (that way they know how much water is being added). Carmel Mizrachi wines are 100% wine. Obviously this must be in consultation with a rav and doctor.

And as to the main issue, I have never heard of anyone waiting between 6-7 apart from Lubavitchers.

But for pregnant women, perhaps it is sakana to drink wine rather than grape juice...

I'll have to look up that post, since I don't remember writing it Wink , but I said wine was preferable, not that you can't use grape juice. Of course you can. (Now I'm going to check up why I even brought it up. Wink )
