Yes, cholent is a beef stew.
If you want something different, you can try this:
1 can diced tomatoes with juice
1 potato, cut into small chunks
1 can chick peas
1 onion, diced
1/3 cup marsala wine
chicken broth
1 pound stew meat
1/2 cup barley
shredded carrots
garlic salt, onion salt, pepper, italian seasoning

Defy, how much would that serve? It sounds good.
I know there's other things in it, but 1 potato sounds so funny to me. For a regular dinner I usually use 8-12 potatoes, and we're not a big family yet.

You can definitely use more than one potato - I just made it for 2 people (it probably made around 4-6 servings). I'm not a big fan of potatoes in stew, so I don't use so many.
Oh, I also put in shredded carrots, I'll add that to the ingredients list.

It's interesting how dif things are good for dif pple. lol. This recipe caught my attention precisely because it only has one potato. We trying to cut back the potatoes and the other stuff in it are great substitutes.
Thanks Defy.

You can also make a beef stew without the beans.
Saute onions and brown stew meat (any kind of cubed meat is fine.)
Add some carrots, potatoes, and zuchinni all cut into chunks. Spice it with reg. seasonings - salt, pepper, garlic etc.. and add some water to just abt. cover. Cook for 1.5-2 hrs. on a low flame but watch it that the water doesn't boil out. The water should become thick.

Thanks again, Defy.
Boys Mom, that's how I usually make it, but I liked Defy's recipe because it's a bit different.
