Can anyone recommend a place that's not crowded (SD) for a family get-together, probably an evening picnic or barbecue. Playground and/or beach a plus.

Bicentennial park in east Brunswick.

Playground, shady easy (short kid friendly) hike by the river). Parking, picnic benches.

Don't know if the bathrooms are open.

Easy to get yo from route 9 (take to 18) and the turnpike, exit 9.

Check out Raritan Bay State Park in South Amboy, NJ.
Theres a beach (but not too clean), small park area, and lots of open fields. Pretty sure there's a picnic area too. Bathrooms are open.
