Now that many of us have our kids home for an indefinite time, what are your tricks to keeping your house clean and not letting dirt and grime build up? It will be quite difficult for me because I have many kids from teens to under 1. So any and all advice welcome!

-Lower your standards. Toys does not equal dirt.
-Everyone makes their bed. No exceptions.
-No shoes indoors.
-Keep windows open for a bit to air out the house.
-Bleach tablets for the toilet tank
-Package of Clorox wipes in every room for easy cleaning
-A broom on every floor (dollar tree!)
-Splurge on magic erasers
-Listen to your favorite song or talk on the phone while doing anything laundry related (I hate laundry. This helps it go by faster).
-Plasticware!!!!! Lock up your china and cutlery. And meals will be made in the microwave or in disposable pans.

If something is in my hand, then I may only put it down in its place. No dumping purse and keys on the table, or a sweater on the back of your chair. If it's leaving my hand, then it's going where it's supposed to go.

When I'm makpid about this, then it annihilates the mess, because it just never happens in the first place. DH, however, thinks I'm crazy for doing it. Wink

Fair enough. But how do you train your kids and dh to do the same? I never managed.

Honestly, I've given up. It's not possible to keep it clean. BUT come Friday my kids know, we go into shabbos with the house sparkling. I need that...

Using disposable bakeware and plasticware.

Disposable tablecloths. When I get to roll up all the garbage and presto! clean tablecloths, I am very happy.

Drop-ins to the tanks so toilets stay fresher between scrubbing.

Mr Clean Erasers on bathtubs and stovetops when no koach to scrub.

Wipes for kids to wipe down bathrooms each day.

Swiffer wet pads to wash floors.

Everybody helps take off and put linen back on.

Kids fold laundry with a folding board.

And this is the first thing actually - lowered expectations.

I let my house get messy and then do a massive clean up for shabbos. Then my house feels amazing for shabbos and it is so much more enjoyable. I can't make myself crazy throughout the week maintaining a level of cleanliness.

I'm still prompting my kids all the time.
"Where do your shoes go?"
"Where do the toy cars go?" Etc.

DH is an independent adult, and it is not my place to "train" him. Ah, well. Love is moving the same pair of shoes 15 times a day.
