My baby is learning to walk will shoes help him or do I buy the shoes only once hes actually walking?
Also can anyone recommend a pair of shoes thats great for the first pair?

Not an emergency. It’s good for babies to walk around barefoot. I went once my baby wanted to run around on the street.

I wait till they're actually walking. I like Stride Rite Soft Motion for beginner walkers. People also like Robeez.

We they walk enough that they don't want to stay in your arms and try to escape in places other than your home. (Park, Shul, library....)
I bought my DD shoes because if she was going to want to go down from my arms or out of the stroller, I wanted something on her feet that was more protective than socks, that actually fit, and had decent traction.

According to my childs orthopedic surgeon, the later the better.
Barefoot in safe places (grass. At home) is best.
Stride rite is excellent for first walkers.
