I don't even know how frequently these are used in EY anymore, but has anyone ever seen/built an outdoor menorah box in the US/Canada?
My SIL is too nervous about her young kids to let the candles burn themselves out indoors, so I thought I'd explore options for outdoor boxes to help her with the mitzvah.

My husband lights outside.
It started off as something he did as a bachur.
The first year or so we were married, I went along with the shtick.
But then I had toddlers, and I'm so greatful that it's one less thing to be nervous about.
Little kids still light by the window, but those candles are done quickly.
It's the 4 hours of oil that get me nervous.
He bought a box in Eretz Yisroel but took it apart and only transported the frame.
He went to a glazier to cut out heat-resistant glass to shape.
But I've seen boxes in the Judaica Stores in Lakewood over the years.

Never seen it in this country. I think my ds in lakewood may have mentioned that one of his rebbeim built such a thing on the outside wall of his house. I've seen houses with "greenhouse windows"--little glass-enclosed balconies intended to provide plants with the maximum sun exposure

--that would work even better because the menorah can be lit from inside the house. But if the object is to keep the candles out of the kids' reach, this would defeat the purpose.

We've bought glass boxes in two different seforim/Judaica stores in Brooklyn (Eichlers and Zundel Berman). I imagine that you can buy them in Lakewood, Monsey, etc. but I haven't checked.

Yes my brother got one as a bar mitzvah gift from someone who bought it at a Judaica store.

Check Facebook groups and Craigslist for "free or cheap fish tank".
Wash off the algae residue, and you're all set!

We did it when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. We were definitely the only ones in our cold town.

Its beautiful.

So true. Dh is working out where to place one for the street minyan outside our building.
In Geula they are easily available to 50cm.
