Question for someone in food industry or related business

Not sure if this is in the right forum, but anyways,
I think I have an excellent idea for a food product. I have not seen this being sold anywhere. I think it would be great if I could market it and get it a patent or something so other people don't copy it. But I am not involved with the food industry at all, and also not really interested in starting a business. (Im already employed in a totally unrelated field, not business at all)

I think it would be smartest if I give the idea to someone already in this type of business with an agreement that we'll share the profits or something. I have some cash I would be willing to invest in the "startup" of the product because I think it would sell very well.

Problem is I have no idea of this is a normal thing to do? Are people in the food industry even interested in hearing ideas and agreeing to share profits, or that's not how it works at all? Anybody know more about this?

Not really a finished product, but could be used basically independently, or as an ingredient. Also it's not shelf stable. Would need to in fridge or freezer section.
