I was just reviewing some Purim halachos with dh and we were reminded that to fulfill the Mitzva of MM, you have to give 2 ready to eat items to 1 person. So, what we are doing (which we think we've done in the past), is we give out ALL MM except 1 per person in the house to be delivered on Purim itself. We do some a few days early and some the night of. That way on Purim day we can enjoy Megillah and our Seudah (esp. this year as it has to be so early).

FYI, we have 6 "proper MM" (read themed and a little $) which we divide as follows: 2 are le shem Shalom, which dh says is the true purpose of MM, 2 are hakaras hatov and 2 are BeKavod. To very close friends to whom we also have hakaras hatov and children's morahs (no REbbes yet) adn employers we give a simpler MM which are delivered ahead of time (usually the 'last day we will see them b4 Purim). We often will give a MM to a neighbor of the recipeint or mutual good friend to deliver (and we will deliver one for them)

Since we are living in the same city as my family for the first time since getting married, we are also giving to them. Officially it's from our kids as we had them choose their favorite foods and they are "writting" a card!

To everyone else we have a HUGE plate of hamentashen at the door and visitors are welcome to help themselves!
