What’s the purpose of it?
Why is there not a van (with a non Jew driving lol) with speakers going around blaring “it’s time to say gut shabbos” etc?
Sorry for the stupid question but it’s something I’ve always been wondering about.

Siren is heard at same time by everyone.
A van with speaker has limited range. You would need a fleet to drive around
In bneibrak they stopped the siren years ago, instead there is a song “gut shabbos”

Ah the siren. Bring back memories of shabbosim in BP at my grandparents when I was a kid. Haven’t thought of the siren in years!
