Bandaids on Shabbos

In my community there is an idea that if you need an bandaid on Shabbos, you don't close it so as not to create something like a lasting knot (kesher shel kayama). Rather you keep the ends separate, kind of like a bypass ring:


I am curious if others hold differently.

I learned that if you do close it on itself, you need to make sure to separate it when you take it off.
