I am not yeshivish nor am I charedi.
However, I will be visiting and would like not to feel like a fool.
I do cover my hair, but with tichels on the weekday and structured wool or straw hats for Shabbos.
When I am traveling, I don't have the room to pack my Shabbos hats.
Is a black sequin beret like this awful or is it somehow okay?
https://www.amazon.com/VALICLU.....;th=1
I actually own it as it belonged to my mother, but I have never worn it because it seems too glitzy/80's.
For the record, I am in my upper 40s and consider myself a classic dresser. This is not my usual style but I thought when in Rome...(well actually Israel).
Thanks for the advice and I won't be offended if people tell me to burn it

Those berets are very in right now in the Yeshivish world. Hats are not.

I don’t think the style is bad at all, if worn correctly. Although I’d go with less glitzy. Besides, though it’s good to blend in somewhat, people don’t expect you to become one of them. I think you’ll be fine. And why can’t you wear tichels in Israel?

I'm very upper 40s. Not a fashionista at all, and I don't cover my hair, but I do live in Israel and am in daily contact with many charedi women.
I don't know any charedi group where that hat is currently being worn. I would have to say it's pretty out of style. You can wear what you want, and I doubt anyone will give a second glance (it is black after all), but if you want to fit in, this isn't it.

I also vote for the tichel. In my mixed community from very yesheivish to modern orthodox you will find almost every type of woman wearing a tichel

I am planning my visit for a while from now but there are reasons that people are allowed in the country...
So it is okay just to wear a plain tichel on shabbos?
For me it doesn't feel shabbosdick, but they are certainly easy to pack

Berets with some subtle sequins mixed in were back in style for a while...are they totally out of style now?

Where I live it's kinda nerdy. If you want to be semi in style, just go with a tichel. I've never seen anyone in a beret where I live. Unless of course you're French and you can get away with anything!😜

If it bothers you, you can buy a fancier tichel or wrap your tichel in a more dressy style.

Of course! Or get some nicer ones of finer fabrics. I think you’ll feel a lot more comfortable in a tichel vs beret in Israel.

I wear a shaitel or fall only, never ever go outside in a snood or tichel. In the house ill sometimes wear a tichel though, tichels (as opposed to snoods) are very in now in mainstream yeshivish fashion

I live in Israel and when I go to a chareidi simcha I wear a fancier mitpachat, like gold or silver, and just make sure to cover all my hair.
