I know it's a little early in the week for this, but how do people (and bakeries) get such smooth Challah strands? Mine always come out looking sloppy. I mean, the pieces used to make the braid.

Rolling out with a rolling pin then rolling up into strands.

Flour each strand so it will keep it's shape. Yolk only for high gloss challah.

Try adding a little oil sometimes dough that has too much flour is too dry and flaky

I oil my strands and stretch them as I braid the challah

You might need a bit more liquid in your dough. Try adding an egg or 2 tbs oil.

The dough I make in my bread machine is always very smooth. Much smoother than my kitchen aide mixer or by hand.
