If your kids have outgrown certain toys and you want to get back some of your money by selling the items (the kids agree to sell or donate), who keeps the money? Would you differentiate between family toys and individual toys? If you keep the money, would you at least reinvest into new things for the kids?

how old are your kids?
who is doing the selling?
how much do you expect to get and how much do you need the money?
depends upon the items and other factors too

I'm hoping for o have my kids help my go thru the toys and lego and organize a sale at some point this summer. Usually these things are sold a a large loss so even if we sell out I doubt it will be more than a few hundred bucks. I absolutely plan to give it to my kids for all their help w organizing/selling.

I’ve never thought to sell old toys. I just donate them. We discuss with my kids which ones they’re ready to part with and to give to those who are less fortunate

You're right that it won't come out to much. Do we need the money? No, B"H. But it could be put to good use if I had it. Like a braces savings account or something.

If it's toys you bought (for the family) then it's your money. If it's toys they won or received as a present then they may keep the money.

I would prefer to use money from toys I purchased to buy toys or games that are for their age or for a year or two older. Then it's sort of like an exchange.

Old toys are usually worth almost nothing.

Some of it was barely used. Anything old or very used will be donated, not sold.
