Anyone else graduate from BYHS?
What memories do you have from there?

Me
I graduated in 2009.
I was never in the “old building” but I’ve heard all the legends lol. I’m sure older graduates have lots of memories from there.
The staff was legendary too although I attended a few teachers’ levayas while in school and several of my teachers were nifteres since.
The school was huge while I was there- my grade had about 230 students. I didn’t know everyone by name.
I never made honors but loved the extracurricular and had lots of fun, most likely because of my friends and learning how to clear detention.

No one knew who I was or made an effort to talk to me, until I requested my transcripts in 12th grade.
Weird memory, running the steps to chase the elevator and getting to class before the teachers.

Grad of 2000
The new building was started while my mother was still in school but sat vacant until after I graduated. Our teachers used to say, "Why would we want to move to the new building if Rebbetzin Kaplan's kedusha is in the walls of our current building?"

Relatable (both parts!). I am amazed at my daughters’ school today where the principals know that very girl by name. I didn’t expect that from my own teachers... it was very rare for a student to have a personal relationship with a teacher:

My dd went to a very different HS. We dont live in Brooklyn. Bh she had a great relationship with her teachers and principals, and even had many of their cell phone numbers. It was the normal in her school to call a teacher the night beforea test with questions. Something I wasn't able to relate to.

Yes. BYHS is Bais Yaakov High School - in Boro Park... it’s the only BY that doesn’t have a location specifically associated with its name- all others are BYHS of Lakewood/Toronto/Montreal etc...

If you are from anywhere other than BP, and went to BY, when you see BYHS you know who it is cuz you spent your high school years making fun of us lol. Also, you don’t think it’s you because it’s missing the of M/L/T after... like I said, it’s the only BYHS.
(Those who said elementary is the same BYBP is bais Yaakov boro park... a bit more specific.)
If you want to know the official name - it’s Beth Jacob Teachers High School and Seminary of America... not very specific to NY

This is the original Bais Yaakov in the US that was started by Reb. Kaplan. That is why there is no location attached to the name; I believe there were no other BYs at the time. Maybe op can add (located in Brooklyn/ BP) to the title, but it isn’t officially called that officially (unlike the elementary school).
