My children (all under 10) have recently started to eat so much. My older ones can eat a full chicken bottom. Is this from the summer and swimming?

I don't find it out of the ordinary for an 8/9 year old to be able to eat a whole chicken bottom

My kids can eat that regularly during the year especially if they’ve had a long busy day.
But definitely swimming and outdoor activities are exercise and that makes you hungry so for sure makes sense.

Increase healthy fat intake so they get their calories

My kids eat a lot more per meal in the summer because they're outside biking, swimming/sprinkling, and not constantly asking for snacks and food.
When I finally get them to eat, they'll eat 3 portions of everything and then run out and play.

Yes could be.
But my 7 year old boy has been eating a whole chicken bottom for a while…

I don’t think that’s so much. My really skinny 5 year old can eat a whole chicken bottom.

My toddler who is under 2 is very much able to eat a full chicken bottom. But yes it makes sense that summer and being more active can cause an increase in appetite. For some kids the opposite happens- the heat and being so busy cause them not to eat so much, but for others they get more hungry. Also some kids who are home all summer end up eating more out of boredom.

Yes, my kids definitely eat more in the summer. They officially eat 2 dinners. But OP, it's normal to start eating more in general at age 9/10, they're starting to grow up.

A buttom is basically a drumstick attached to the top of the leg.

It's Brooklyn for "chicken quarter."
They also say "top" for chicken breast 🤷♀️

I never thought my kids were small eaters until reading this thread. There is no way my five year old is eating an entire bottom. Do you serve a significant amount of starch a veggies also?

My 5 year old can eat a whole bottom, a 1/2 cup brown rice, and 2 Kirby cucumbers sliced up.

One of my kids usually eats only chicken and nothing else. So she can eat an entire bottom, sometimes even a bottom and a drumstick, she can also eat 2 chicken cutlets.

Oh my gosh people. Grow up.
It's called a THIGH. Say it with me, THIGH THIGH THIGH!
See? The world didn't end.
There is nothing untznuah about a thigh, a leg, or even a chicken breast. Seriously.
Besides, I think saying "bottom" is much worse. What's next, chicken tushie?

Thank you for that, FF!
I say those words. The cut mentioned is definitely my favorite. I love dark meat. Always go for a drumstick/leg or a thigh.
