I would like to get some books for my 26 month-old son about welcoming a new baby into our family. He is our first child and I am due, IY"H, in a couple of months. If you know of any such books I would appreciate some reccomendations. Thanks very much.

if you do yiddish or hebrew books, the malky and yossele series has a great one.

I highly suggest you buy a doll and a little stroller (bottle, spoons, bib, diaper, etc.). Don’t look at me like I’m nuts and say ‘but he’s a booooooooooooooy”. Your son will be so happy playing with the doll, he’ll leave the baby alone! I never introduced a book, a doll was enough.

I don't think you are crazy, but my son already has a doll and a stroller. At least I don't feel nuts now! He is very nurturing and always liked playing with these things at other people's homes so we got him one.

I think he needs a book, though, b/c every time we try to talk to him about the baby, he seems upset and says he does not want it to come and live with us.
I want to teach him it will be a wonderful, beautiful thing.

Non-Jewish book reccomendations too, please!

So try sharing the “doll” with him. Take turns feeding… hold the doll around the house, sleep with it… eventually he will get used to the doll being on you side a lot too. It’s very therapeutic in a non traumatic way and he obviously needs huge preparation.

I actually went to the library and asked the librarian for suggestions. Might as well go to the pro's.

I was going to recommend that one too. With four kids in five years, I know it by heart (We have the ones for both sexes.)

Nothing wrong with boys playing with dolls! My son likes dolls, we have one with a potty, pacifiers and a bottle, and he loves to rock it to "sleep"!

we also got Im a Big Brother, as well as a baby doll...my son would "nurse" the baby doll while I'd nurse the baby... a friend of mine just had twins, while she was expecting she bought her daughter 2 dolls to get used to the idea!
