my mil once bought me a nightgown. Dont do that

Mine did too. And a nice soft bathrobe. I LOVED the nightgowns she bought, so much that later I bought one for myself. She did make sure they were to my taste (I think she asked DH) but her taste and mine are reasonably similar.

She bought me two of these, in different colors. When I stop nursing I will go back to wearing them, they are THE most comfortable in the world.

Disagree . Then they get jealous of the other etc. if you go to a daughter or dil for shabbos u can gift an item for them but Chanukah at a party all tog. Can turn messy.

My MIL who I loved so much used to give me presents and tell me not to tell the others about it . She didn’t want to cause jealousy but wanted to give me special things. Was very uncomfortable .

I once ordered from Honeyshosiery.com. She has gorgeous robes , nightgowns, slippers and you can add a diffuser. Or you could send them a Shaatra Planner if they're that type. She wraps beautifully and delivers with a personal card. I was very happy

I would LOVE to get this as a gift:

https://waterdalecollection.co.....v=1.0

Way nicer than the styrofoam heads on the dresser, makes the bedroom look better! And not something that many people will spend on for themselves.

My MIL has over ten daughters in law and not a lot of money. She doesn't buy us Chanukah gifts every single year but over the years we have all received:
Make up compacts
Packaged sets of perfume samples
Personalised pens
Towels
Dead sea beauty products
Bags and watches( cheap , fashionable ones, definitely not high end)
Decorative napkin holders
Tablecloths

The quality of the items vary of the years and reflects her financial situation that year. She always gives us the same gift even a lot of them might not be to everyone's taste. My personal favourite was the year she gave us all a personalised large print sefer tehilim...I was already at an age where my eyes were beginning to find smaller print difficult.
All gifts were very appreciated and I actually enjoyed and used most of them.

Ask their husbands if there is something specific they would appreciate. Eg I personally would hate to get that wig stand someone posted, have no patience for monogrammed stuff, etc. My mil would probably realize that but she would speak to my husband who would definitely know that and he would tell her that this year I was dying for a new coffee machine, or can she give the money she would spend on a gift for us to buy me a new sheitel, etc. (Both of which my mil has done)

I don't wear a sheitel, but that is nicer than those creepy styrofoam heads.

Just what I was thinking! Those blank, staring eyes and those unnaturally long necks... ugh.

Thank you.

To add, they don't all have to be a gift card to the same place. Get one a gift card to a restaurant she loves, and the other to a make-up place, and a third to the Lego store, a fourth to a home store. Etc... Show your kids that you recognize they are individual people.

Will you be my MIL? I'd love a gift card to the Lego store! My actual MIL would faint at the thought of giving that as a gift though, lol Very Happy

My oldest is in shidduchim and this thread is stressing me out. Seriously can MILs ever catch a break? Why do people come on here to complain about gifts or complain they got nothing? Why are there so many expectations??
