My mom is in her 60’s but has been suffering from knee pain and walking funny for few years. It’s time to look into knee replacement surgery.
Firstly I’m helping her do research which dr and hospital to make an appointment with.
Personal experiences Would be greatly appreciated.
Then how do we plan for after care. She lives on her own. I hear she will need full help the first few weeks.

The hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan has an excellent reputation. They specialize in joint replacement. Her PCP is generally a good place to start with referrals.
My neighbor had a knee replacement and having someone to help at home is extremely helpful. With knee replacement, she would generally be released to a rehab facility where the OT and PT are much better than she would receive at home or outpatient. But even when she goes home, having someone to help is necessary. For example, you are supposed to ice the knee frequently and so most people would need help with the ice machine and settling it in place. If she lives alone, I would think someone staying with her would be necessary, they don’t have to be skilled because they will send a nurse to help with changing dressings if necessary.

I used Dr. Scuderi at lenox Hill Hospital (which is now part of Northwell). Very happy with results. I had two knee replacements with him. Hospital nursing staff great and Rabbi Silverman who is Chaplain was very informative. Good luck
