I'm OP of the Ohel thread. I was there today, for the first time, and the most heartwarming thing about it to me, was the mix of Jews there, as s/o else said.

Are there other places in New York, where one can be inspired like that?

Israel has many Mkomos Kedoshim where all Jews go, but does New York?

Surely you jest? don't you know the joke about 2 jews stranded on a desert island? when finally rescued, there are 3 shuls on the island. the rescuers, amazed, ask why 3 shuls? one that Mr. A davens in and Mr. B doesn't. One that mr. B. davens in and Mr. A doesn't. and one that neither Mr. A norr mr. B would ever set foot in.

But seriously, "everyone" davens at the kotel because at the time of the Beihamik that was all there was. there was no " Young Israel of Beit hamikdash" and "Agudah of Har habayit" and "Congregation Kodesh Kodoshim". There was one beit hamikdash that belonged to all of BY, and so too it belongs to all of us now.

In golus, there is no such thing. Nor, I think, should there be. Golus shouldn't be too comfortable. Golus should feel like...golus.

Some places (like the Ohel) attract a nice mix of backgrounds, and you don't feel like it's restricted to any ONE type exclusively.

Most people go to the kevarim of their own manhigim/rebbes etc... there arent any 'central' places.

Lots of people end up really praying when they have a terrible taxi driver that doesn't know where the heck he/she's going

hey, if you live very out of town, a place like 13th avenue is inspirational!

Whenever we take the kids to visit their grandparents, as we drive in to the frum area of town, my kids are always amazed to see so many Jewish people.
