Who wants an Easter egg

Who wants to chuckle over the kids head at sxly explicit or suggestive innuendo

Kids pick up way more than one might think and even if not it’s perverse and what’s the goal?

Slippery slope and wrong energy to expose the kids to or even ourselves

This would have gone straight over my head to be honest. Now and definitely when I was a kid.

Surprised Oh my! LOL LOL LOL This is NOT a family oriented app. I can't believe they are using this in schools. Rosetta Stone is much more appropriate - but it's not as "hip and edgy".

Some of the other examples on this thread are equally questionable. Click at your own risk.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'd consider deleting the app over this.

I thought duolingo is all languages. My kids use it for Hebrew. Should I be worried?

Stories are available in Italian too, and thus far, seem to not be inappropriate.

Duolingo is not for kids. It's not trying to appeal to kids.

Here's a TedTalk transcript by the person who developed Duolingo about his idea of creating a language learning program that would simultaneously translate the non-English parts of the internet. It's really an interesting idea. And knowing the background will make you feel less like it's an insidious plot to indoctrinate children. Children are not the target audience at all. Every person I know that uses it is an adult.

It isn't intended primarily for kids, but they clearly do not intend it to be for adults only either, or they wouldn't have deleted "2048" or replaced all the more advanced stories with childish ones.
