Any tips on the best way to use a hot plate? Im always so nervous my food is going to burn!!!

I also had this problem a few times. What I do is I place a towel on the hotplate then place the pans of food on the towel.

I use something heat/fire safe, like a muffin tin.

I turn foil pans over on my hot plate & put my pans of food on top so it doesn't burn

I use an oven rack. And the center is the hottest, so put things that burn easily on the outside or on top of another dish.

When the food gets too hot I put glass or heavy duty aluminum pans upside down on the hot plate and put the food on top of those, then cover with a towel to keep warm.
